Arnhem Transfer Hall designed by UNStudio
The Arnhem Central Transfer Terminal will celebrate its grand opening on Nov 19th 2015. The transfer terminal, designed by UNStudio, is the central and organising component of the Arnhem Central Masterplan. Alongside the various components of the masterplan, the transfer terminal will create a new identity for the station area, which forms an important future-oriented node catering for an increase in rail traffic from Germany and Europe.
The design for the new station embraces the directive for the regeneration and renewal of station areas and their surroundings and concurs with the development plans for the City Region and the area between Arnhem and Nijmegen – which is becoming increasingly important within the European economy. One of the largest post-war developments in the city, the design for Arnhem Central Station employs double ground use to expand the station area into a multimodal transport hub and a mixed-use venue for work, living, retail, restaurants and entertainment.
