ENSIBS in Lorient by ANMA
The National School of Engineers of South Brittany (ENSIBS), designed by ANMA Agence Nicolas Michelin Associés, is a new entity of the whole university of St. Maudé site in Lorient. It seemed very important to hang the new building to its territory and provide a legible and easy entry footpath and high quality to allow students to go from one point to another. It is the notion of campus in the city that we sought to implement while preserving the wooded character of the site. The “gives himself to see” building with an iconic shape. Its vegetated terraces mark the entrance to the heart of the school. From either side, two large glass staircases reveal the internal movements at the facility. Finally the roof gives a singular figure to all. Since the entry roundabout of the city, the building stands as an urban signal.
The architectural style that combines large sections of wood and aluminum tapes, deliberately sober while scoring high volumetric smooth by the play of terraces planted welcoming student life. This is inside / outside relationship developed enough that gives the building a high quality of use.
The environmental approach voluntarily bed in the morphology of the building: exterior insulation, photovoltaic panels on the roof.
All these elements are part of the project and contribute to its identity.
