Kapoor+Isozaki for Ark Nova
It’s the world?s first air-inflated membrane structure concert hall, designed by british sculptor Anish Kapoor and japanese architect Arata Isozaki, to be set in different zones of japan that were devastated in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Not only concerts inside; conferences and performance will take place as part of Lucerne Festival Ark Nova program.
The membrane (now stationing in Matsushima City) can be folded up and the equipment dismantled and loaded on a truck, so they can be brought to each site. It is envisioned to seat about 500 during an orchestra performance, and is planned to have a width of 30 m, length of 36 m and maximum height of 18 m.
