MUSEUM OF THE YEAR 2013
Located on the site of the former Inglis Shipyard, the Riverside Museum is an award winning building that has already become an iconic landmarlk on the banks of River Clyde.
The museum is a sectional extrusion open at both ends that flows from city to waterfront and symbolizes the dynamic relationship between Glasgow and the ship-building.
“The building open at opposite ends, has a tunnel-like configuration between the city and the Clyde. However, the building diverts to create a journey away from its external context into the worls of the exibits”. About the museum the judges said: “The Riverside Museum demonstrates brilliantly how a specialist transport collection can renew its relevance through active engagement with wider social and universal issues. The EMYA 2013 Judging Panel agreed unanimousily that the museum fulfils the EMYA criteria of “public quality” at the highest level”.
